Feasibility Study to explore options for the extension and rebuild of an existing care home, increasing capacity from 42 to 60 bedrooms, and improving compliance by enhancing bedrooms size and  introducing en suite bathroom accommodation throughout. The designs addressed the needs of residents with dementia and enhanced residents’ cognitive and social abilities.

The first option proposed a new wing to the west with extensive internal interventions and examined the construction sequencing to ensure that the facility could remain functional during construction.

​

Other options proposed new build solutions, on the existing site and on a hypothetical undefined site. Options for modular volumetric construction were considers as this approach suited the design and time constraints.

​

The three options aimed to provide fully compliant accommodation in secure residential units with an optimal arrangement of social and communal spaces to benefit the well-being of residents.
