Kew Montessori School
Concept design and planning application, 2020
Kimbell Pike Architects
Extension and remodelling of an existing nineteenth century building to provide a new nursery school for 50 pupils.
The scheme provides an open plan ground floor teaching space which can be sub divided into individual learning areas in line with Montessori principles. Timber is used extensively with exposed structure extending outside to provide covered external teaching and play areas. Pupils with special educational needs are accommodated in their own space on the first floor. Externally the brick clad main façade links to the scale and proportions of the adjoining terrace relating to the language of the Kew Gardens conservation area.
